Grand Gold Cup – 75 Points

Alex Whirley, a senior at Milton High School, has earned the 75- point Grand Cup from NFMC. Alex started piano lessons when he was 8, and has been the student of Julie Soh-Harbin for 10 years. He has participated in the federation of music clubs festival every year, earning consecutive Superior ratings for his Solo and Concerto playing.
In addition to his piano playing, all 4 years of High School, Alex has been an awarded percussionist of the Milton Marching Band, the Milton Wind Ensemble and the Milton Indoor Drumline, additionally maintaining the position of Drumline Captain his senior year.  After graduation, Alex plans to attend the University of Georgia, majoring in International Affairs and then furthering his education in Law School. As well, Alex plans to march in Drum Corps and WGI independent Drumlines while he is in College to advance his musical education.
Peter Craig was born and raised in Peachtree Corners, GA. He started piano lessons with Wendy Vann at the age of five following in the footsteps of his older siblings.
Peter will receive the 75 Point Solo Cup this year as an 11th grader. He has participated in Federation Festivals of 11 years, and has performed solos, duets and concertos. He has also performed in the National Program at National Guild Auditions.
 Peter will graduate from Norcross High School in 2023 with an IB Diploma where he plays tennis on the Varsity Tennis team.
 Maureen Goughnour
Maureen Goughnour graduated from Pinecrest Academy during Pandemic lock- down.  She was one of only two seniors selected for the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
She has been taking piano lessons from Ms. Julie Yu since she moved here from Charlottesville, VA.  Maureen has been composing music since throughout her study, and she has a received a Superior rating for each of her compositions.
This year she will be receiving the 75-point Gold Grand Cup from GFMC.  This fall Maureen will be attending LaGrange College where she will be majoring in Music Composition and Music Technology.  She was awarded a scholarship of $72,000 which was comprised from scholarships in Piano, Composition, Saxophone and academics.  Maureen is looking forward to pursuing a career in music
