Floride Smith Dean Award

This award has been set up by endowment from the estate of Floride Smith Dean to be used for Piano Scholarships in the Student Division in the Georgia Federated Music Clubs. Floride Smith Dean also endowed monies for piano scholarships to the NFMC, as well as Converse College, Anderson College and Federated Music Club all of which are in South Carolina.

Awards:

1st Place Winner	Distinguished Performer	$2,000
2nd Place Winner	Accomplished Performer	$500

Eligibility:

1. Must be 19 to 26 years of age by the application deadline.
2. Must be an American Citizen.
3. Must be a member of National Federation of Music Club (NFMC).
4. May join NFMC as an individual member by paying the $16 annual membership fee at the online application form.
5. Must not have won “Distinguished Performer” award in the Floride Dean competition previously.

Repertoire Requirements:

1. Repertoire is limited to two pieces of published work:
   1. One work or a movement of a work by an American composer
   2. One work or a movement by a composer from the baroque, classical or romantic period.
2. The two selections together must not exceed 15 minutes.

Audition Requirements:

1. Auditions are conducted in an online video format.
2. The two pieces must be performed from memory.
3. The recording of each piece must be a continuous and unedited performance.
4. The two pieces may be recorded separately and then edited together into one video.

Application

Application and Video Submission Deadlines:

1. Application
   1. Receipt Deadline: April 10 yearly
   2. Application must be submitted with the online application form
   3. Application Fee: $50. Payment must be paid through GFMC secure online payment system upon completion of the application form.
   4. A Contestant ID number will be assigned and emailed to the applicant after the application form and fee receipt deadline.
   5. Do not send the video until you receive your Contestant ID number.
2. Video Submission
   1. Receipt Deadline: May 1
      LATE application and video submission will NOT be accepted.
   2. Via the Video Submission Google Form link which will be emailed to applicant after the application deadline.
   3. Videos will be accepted ONLY by the Google Form link. DO NOT send URL by email.

Video Submission Guidelines:

1. The video should be titled:
   “Floride Dean, Contestant ID Number”.
   No applicant’s name or teacher’s name should be shown in the video title or the background of the video, and the YouTube account username.
2. Be sure to check the video. If it is inaccessible, the application will be deemed disqualified, and the application fee forfeited.
3. Follow the steps to create a YouTube video link on a computer (see below).

To Create the YouTube Video:

1. You may record the video of the two pieces separately or together, but you MUST submit the recordings of BOTH pieces in the order on your application form in ONE VIDEO.
2. Each piece must be recorded from start to end without pause. No editing is allowed.
3. Video should be uploaded to YouTube on a computer.
   1. In your browser, go to www.youtube.com
   2. Sign in (upper right corner of page)
   3. You will need to have a Google (Gmail) account. If not, select the option to create an account
   4. When uploading your performance video to YouTube, select the option of UNLISTED (not private!).
   5. This video SHOULD NOT be searchable or publicly available.
   6. USE A GENERIC “USERNAME” ON THE ACCOUNT, either use the Contestant Number or a generic name (such as “music”).
   7. Rename the video to show: “Floride Dean, Contestant ID Number” on the title.

To Submit the Video:

1. After the YouTube video is created, click the SHARE option and copy/paste the shortened URL to the blank provided on the Video Submission Google Form.
2. The Video Submission Google Form link should have been emailed to you along with the Contestant ID number.
3. Complete the Google Form (all fields are required).
4. Click “Submit” at the bottom of the form.
